Susie & Sam
Private Tipi, Peak District
Susie and Sam’s wedding was a weekend full of celebrations with 200 guests including 40 children! They wanted a relaxed, laid back feel to the day with great food and drink and all the children well catered for!
Susie loved the idea of getting married in the garden at their new home, surrounded by the gorgeous Peak District hills, so they legally married early in the day surrounded by close family and friends with a celebrant conducting their ceremony later in the day. Ideally she wanted to be married in the open air with no cover, but living in the Peak District the weather is very unpredictable and the forecast was changing minute by minute so we decided to have a plan B, which involved a fabulous stretched, almost sail-like canvas to ensure Susie could have her dream outdoor ceremony without drowning the guests!
They both loved the idea of having tipis on the field adjacent to their home, but wanted ones that could take in the views whatever the weather! Fortunately we knew just the company to call!
How the tipis looked internally was just as important as all of the other elements. They wanted a very natural and unstructured feel, but still beautiful and we knew just the florist! They did a fantastic job of decorating the tables using an assortment of quirky vases and jars that Susie had collected over time, and decorated the structural poles within the tipis, with twisted foliage and flowers and twinkling fairylights. It looked fabulous. Keeping with the natural theme the Jo the florist created a wheelbarrow table plan which fitted in perfectly with the look and feel of the day.
At last the pouring rain finally stopped and we could begin with the ceremony which saw Susie and Sam’s children (plus other bridesmaids) walk Susie down the aisle. Keli the celebrant had created a totally personal ceremony that reflected this couple perfectly.
As food and drink was an important element to their day, so it was important we worked with a caterer who really listened and understood what Susie and Sam wanted. Susie was a vegetarian so wanted the food for her to be just as interesting and tasty as the options for the meat eaters. Delicious canapés and sharing starters worked perfectly on the long wooden tables.
During the drinks reception the sun finally poked out from the clouds and we were treated to a double rainbow!
By this time the celebrations were in full swing, with a backdrop of cool, bohemian music, happy children and very happy adults! Soon everyone was sitting down to a delicious feast and with the speeches well under way, the children were being entertained by their very own magic show.
After dinner guests were treated to homemade sloe gin cocktails and kegs of local ale; the evening was topped off with live music and finished in the early hours.
We were then back the following day to oversee the post wedding analysis, we brought in a Land Rover pizza oven, an ice cream van and an entertainer for the children. It was still raining but it was just the perfect end to a great weekend!
“Thank you Andrea for all your help, we have had such an amazing time!” Sam the Groom
